He signed up to golf today. He also asked Dave to help him move our refrigerator out of storage and over here.
We drove over to storage and got a bunch of boxes loaded into the car. Dave met us at the storage unit and helped get the frig onto the truck. I headed into town to hit a couple stores. Initially, Marie and I planned to meet up around noon and have lunch together. She got sick so wasn't able to meet me. But, Gina and the boys were at the mall in the play area, so I met them and we sat and watched them play and visited for awhile.
Wonder where they get their blue eyes, don't you?
That's when Dan called me and told me he'd remembered the men's retreat...the golf outing (that started at 9:00a.m.!)
He also wondered when I'd be home because he wanted to work on some electrical stuff. He won't work on that while he's alone in the house.
So, I hurried home, he "hooked up" the kitchen and we plugged the frig in so it could start cooling. Then we received a call from a place in Grand Rapids that sells appliances. Dan had talked to a salesman there yesterday. They had a black stove he thought would be what we are looking for. Well, Dan was scheduled to leave at 3:00 so I offered to drive back into Grand Rapids and check it out. (Marie and I thought she might be feeling better and we could have dinner together!)
When I got there, the guy asked if I wanted him to hook it up so I could see it work. I thought that was a pretty good idea since we live 45 minutes away!
He and another guy there hooked it up, plugged it in and proceeded to turn on each burner. Two lit up right away. Two had to be helped with a lighter. (by now you know it is a gas stove)
Then they turned the oven on. Click, click.....nothing. Set the temperature, turn it on....click, click.....nothing. They did this REPEATEDLY. While they had the oven door open, I noticed a lot of drippey water on the racks and on the bottom surface. They said they had cleaned it out. As they tried starting it, they told HOW they cleaned it out. They spray an oven cleaner in it, leave it sit awhile, then HOSE IT DOWN with a power washer! Hello! It is a gas stove/oven! I couldn't believe they were actually admitting this to me. But they didn't see anything wrong....they were almost bragging that they had CLEANED it up. Well, after a bazillion tries, one of them said, "I don't know what else to say. It must have water in the ignition."
Really?
So I offered, do you want me to call you in awhile to see if you were able to get it started?
Yeah, they thought that was a good idea.
I called back in a little over and hour and the first guy I had talked to assured me they had dried it out and gotten it going. It was water in the ignition. It was running/heating up. He would keep it on 'til I got there, so I could see how hot it got. Then once I saw that, he'd turn it off and let me see it light up again.
True to his word, it was hot. It did start without a problem. All burners worked, now that it was dried out.
We now have a new stove.
I was not able to bring it home, as I had the car. Dan will have to take the van in and pick it up.
How they get their appliances - when someone loses their home, they call and sell it to these guys for a discounted rate. They make sure everything is in working order, or make any repairs, then resell them.
This stove is a Whirlpool Elite....really quite nice compared to others we've seen.
And it is really clean! LOL
Their cleaning technique impressed me. I may call them the first time I need it cleaned ;-)
On my way home, Kayla called me. She wanted to go to Jazmyn's soccer game in the morning, so I picked her up and she is spending the night with me. On our way home, we called Mindi to see if we could see their new house. But she and Jaz were in Ionia! So, we met them at Applebee's, had a bite to eat, then went through the parking lot to Wal-Mart and got stuff for breakfast.
At Applebee's
So, as you see, not much got done at the house today.
Tomorrow doesn't look too promising either. Dan gets done at the men's retreat about noon. But it is in Cadillac, so it will be mid-afternoon before he gets back.
I have the soccer game for Jazmyn, have to get Kayla home, then Marie is coming into town to see the house and have lunch with me. We may be meeting Daniel's fiancee's mother and grandmother tomorrow evening too.
When will there be time to work??
It's been a much-needed-break. We'll be all relaxed for another full week, maybe.
Funny thing just happened....Kayla came into our 'office' where the computers are and said, "Your sink is insulting!"
She had to stand on her tip-toes to wash her hands!
Hope your Friday was "fun" too!
