Our goal was to focus on the kitchen....and we did. Dan finished the wiring of the kitchen at 10:14 a.m. on 8/6/10!!
Here he is finishing it up. We decided to put wiring in for under-the-counter lighting. So he added wires for that before putting in insulation.
He also changed the door to the basement.
Old door on the right, new door on the left.
Old door off, new door installed.
Then he put insulation into the wall cavities.
I couldn't believe what a difference it made just covering up the bare walls with insulation. Made it easier to imagine what it will look like with drywall, cupboards, etc. I am excited about tomorrow - he will finish the insulation and we'll start putting drywall on the ceiling first then if time permits start on the walls. In the meantime I'll finish the cupboard doors.
Today I put several coats on the drawers and the back of the cupboard doors. They are dry and tomorrow I'll turn them over and prime and paint the fronts.
More doors with the cabinets in the background.
I'm encouraged with the way the drawers are turning out. The backs of the doors give me great hope for the fronts. I didn't bother to sand between layers on the backs of the doors but with sanding between each layer on the front, they should glisten! At least I'm hoping they will!
Now, to a few hours of R&R. The house is very quiet right now. We debated going out for dinner and maybe seeing a movie. But, since we have the house to ourselves, why spend money? We'll sit and enjoy the quietness.
Dan has his men's monthly breakfast at Ionia Res in the morning. We decided to leave the van at the house and not drive both vehicles. So, I'll be riding with him in the morning and working at the house while he has breakfast - the sacrifices we make ;-)
Maybe I will get the cupboards done before he even gets back!
You are welcome to come visit us at any time!
