Hot and Muggy with Lots of Humidity

It was HOT today and very muggy! I was very thankful for the air conditioner that we put in the living room window!

I "sanded" the coat of primer before I put paint on the cabinets. Gina had talked to someone at the Sherwin Williams store a week or so ago that said the secret to good cabinet finishes is to sand between each coat, even if you use a light sanding block or brown paper bag. Well, I didn't have the lightest possible sanding block, so I found a brown paper bag and used it. It actually worked well at taking off the little tiny bumps that seems to appear out of nowhere when you paint.

After the first and second coats I sanded with brown paper also. That room is rather dark to start with, then you add the fact that there wasn't much sun today and it was very difficult to tell how they look. One or two were in direct light from the window and they looked decent, so I'm hoping that they will be fine.

Here are a few pics of the cabinets with two coats of paint on them.

We had to purchase two cabinets to finish the kitchen layout. Other than that, we are using the cabinets that were already in the house. One of the new ones was a corner unit, the other is an upper 12 inch cabinet. They were bare wood, so I sanded with the sander, then finished with the light grit sanding block.

Here are the two new ones.

Dan had to go to Hastings this morning and finish another phase of that job....it was laying block. He got back around 1 p.m. or 1:30. He then worked on more drywall in the guest bedroom and sanded in the bathroom. He came down for a break about ready to self-combust. It was so hot and stuffy up there, I don't know how he lasted as long as he did!

This is in the master bathroom where our double sinks will go.

I'm thinking of using a dresser for the cabinet. It can be up to 6 feet long. Any input? Suggestions?

After I took Dan's picture he insisted on taking mine - as I descended the stairs.

Oh, yes, the loveliness after working and sweating all day long!
We're hoping the humidity breaks tomorrow and it isn't so hot.

  1. You know I totally love the dresser idea for the bathroom. Ever get the measurements from Emogene? I will keep my eye open for a really sweet dresser but give me the measurements you are looking for, ok?
    Looking good Conklins!!
