World's Largest Camping Chair

Today we started out at Dave and Gina's. Well, truthfully, Dan and Dave started out working in Dave's yard. He is doing all kinds of things to their yard...one of which is taking out a dog run they have never used and never plan to use. They rolled the chain link up and .....did all kinds of guy things.

Shameless advertising - Dave has his own Duct Cleaning business. It is called Kleen Air Duct Cleaning. Should you ever need your ducts cleaned or your dryer vents, don't hesitate to call him. You see the number in the picture!

Here's the pile of dirt they'll be spreading in the morning.

Before I tell you the rest of today, the plan for tomorrow is to pick up a bobcat and start in Dave's yard. They plan to spread the dirt out (that Dave got yesterday) and cover the circle of sand where a pool used to reside. Then they will take out the end of the driveway and regrade it. It is very uneven and bumpy. Then we'll go over to our house and take out the concrete steps that were under the deck.

Back to today.
You always start with a plan, right?
Today was no different.

They finished roughing in the closet in the guest bedroom.

More studs go up

Then we took out door frames in the hallway. It included the door into the hallway, the back bedroom door and doorframe and the bathroom door. We debated on whether to keep the doors or not. We aren't sure if there is lead paint in them or not. (Anyone know how to tell if lead paint is on a door or not?) So, we set it aside and will decide later.

Bathroom door removed and all the door frame is gone too.

See down the hallway? No woodwork!

Hank arrived somewhere in the middle of all that. I didn't get one picture of him today - shame on me! He certainly helped out though!

Then, while I went to get lunch, Dan and Dave started tearing out what was left of plaster and lathe in the kitchen. Some was left at the top of the walls by the ceiling.

So, as they are tearing it out, they found a place in the wall that contained a bunch of odd items like the following:

Envelope and Card

Check out that date!

Old School Play Program

This was a small envelope

Small can

And its' contents

Music

Dan also found the place where the zip cord was connected that we shared with you in one of the first few posts. (Zip cord, another word for lamp cord!)

Dan pointing it out.

Closer up of the "not so safe" cord, buried inside the wall.

Then, while Dan was taking garbage out to the truck, I picked up his concrete tool and moved a piece of the broken concrete outside the kitchen slider.

I called Dan and Dave over to see what was underneath...only dirt!
But then Dan grabbed his sledge hammer and went to town.

Near the new French Door

Then to end the day, they cut holes in the lathe to accommodate the blowing in of insulation. (That will be done by Whitson Insulation - another shameless plug!)

An example

Dave drilling the holes

While they drilled, I swept (I love that Shop Vac!)I swept the floors mostly, but walls too. You can't believe how messy this process is. You clean up one pile of plaster and as soon as they do another project, you have a whole new mess to sweep up. If you leave it on the floor though, it gets walked on and turns to dust. I will be very pleased when we no longer have to deal with plaster in any way, shape or form.

Hank snuck the camera, otherwise you'd never see this!

One other thing I have to tell you. Dan, Dave and I went to Menards as we got into Ionia to get a few supplies. While there, we saw the largest camping chair we have ever seen. We laughed...I told them they should sit in it. No one volunteered, so I jumped up. Made me feel like a kid....seeing this picture, makes me look like one too!
