Kitchen Tile

You would not even believe how different the kitchen floor looks with the tile going down! It is SO nice.

We got a bit of a late start this morning. Then Dan got a couple calls: one from his Dad saying he was going to be close and would stop by to check out the progress. The other one was from a friend who wanted him to meet him in Lowell to look at a piece of machinery and also help load it onto a truck. We worked til his Dad showed up....OOPS, forgot to take his picture. He was very complimentary on the pillars (we bought them from him - for $10.00 each!) They weren't in such great shape, but, given some time we fixed them up quite nicely, don't you think?

As soon as he left, Dan had to leave for Lowell. I worked on some Christmas decorations while he was gone, AND talked to Marie for about an hour. That didn't prevent me from working tho'. I kept putting up pine boughs the whole time. Here are a few pictures of that project.

Needs a little more in the middle, doesn't it?
I ran out of the silver spikey things. May need to get some more!

Anyway, when Dan returned, we began in earnest to work on the floor. He had gone around earlier in the morning and screwed the old screws down. Quite a few of them broke off when he did that, so he took them out and replaced them with new ones.
(Of course, if you saw the way he reefed on them, you would totally understand why they broke! ;-)
He also added a lot of new screws in that old subfloor.

Then we took turns sanding the floor.

While I sanded, Dan filled some random gaps with puffy stuff.

We decided to put them on the diagonal in a brick pattern (of course we did, he's a mason!)

Laying it out

Dan ran to Menard's to get the adhesive for the tiles. While he was gone, I swept the floor.
He returned and began laying out the tiles. We realized the shop vac hadn't done it's job very well. I swept the whole floor again with the other sweeper.

We now know our floors VERY well!

Then the sticky stuff goes down....

First tile goes down

More sticky stuff

More tile

So, at this point, it was after 9:00 p.m. and Dan's knees were killing him.
We decided to call it a night and have some dinner!
We'll finish laying the tiles tomorrow and grout it, I think.
You know how plans can go....
