We can't fail to mention and present our real estate agent, Mike Morin. He made trip after trip from Grand Rapids to Ionia to show us houses. We were reminiscing a bit today and figured out we started looking at homes with him about a year ago!
Thanks Mike, you were awesome!
And, us sitting at the table signing all the documents....
We were done with all the formalities by 1:30 p.m.
From there we got the dump truck and headed over to survey what we just purchased and start hammering a few walls.
First things first – I quoted Dan previously.....he was going to cut the overgrowth along the side of the house first. Well, he did. No more scraping the vehicle as you drive up the drive.
Is there actually a window behind all that??
During removal
We tore off the paneling on the dining room walls.

After
We then tackled the rough sawn cedar trim at the entry to the formal living room. (Great trim, don't you think?)
Before
After
We tore out the flooring in the entryway and part of the carpet in the formal living room.
We tore out the barn sided “bar”.

Another Before....
After
Surprising and delightful things behind the walls.
Another shot of the walls once the barn siding was removed
Beautiful taille wallpaper I'm thinking!
We also went upstairs and tore carpet up from the hallway and first bedroom, even the lovely brown carpet that was on the wall! But, my gloves were so gross by then
I didn't bother to take pictures up there.
We also went into the master bedroom and checked out those walls - they are plaster and lathe on two and drywall on a third wall. (The fourth is a closet). Wonder what that logic was, don't you? No pictures from that room either. I'll do that tomorrow, before my brand new gloves get 'icky'! I think I'll be going through a lot of gloves if tonight is any indication. Good thing they are only a buck, huh?!
Tomorrow will start bright and early. Dan has his Tuesday morning men's Bible Study. Couldn't con him into calling off for this one week. But, I'm going to make a quick stop at the store, get a few supplies like plastic to cover the woodwork, painters tape to hold it on, ice, water....maybe a little food should we take the time to stop and eat, then head over and start - I'm not sure where. Maybe I won't get there until he's back from Grand Rapids and we can start together. Or, I'll take some pictures! That's always a good filler!
Don't forget, if you are reading this, you are invited to join in the fun!
Thanks for reading!
I just know this is gonna be a "showplace" when you all get done! Love seeing the progress in pictures. Keep what you find behind or in walls it will be fun to look at when you are all done!
ReplyDeleteKeep the faith it's gonna be GREAT!
