And The Job Is.....

So, it is day #4 of Dan working on this new job....he's tired when he arrives home at 11:15 or later, but he is learning it. He's doing quality control so it isn't real challenging. If you know us at all, you know we like a good challenge. So, we'll see how the first week goes.

It certainly has changed our lives, or should I say our schedule. He hasn't worked 2nd shift in decades, so it is quite an adjustment for both of us.

I've been filling my time with preparation for classes, fun stuff and family.

Today I went over to Gina's and gave Kayla another sewing lesson. I really shouldn't call it a lesson. I took my machine and we hammered out her bedroom curtains. If you've ever made curtains, you know they aren't difficult, just time consuming. Then we ironed them and got them ready to hang. She was teasing Dave saying she would have to find a handyman to help her get the curtain rods up! He promised to help her do it.

She didn't want her picture taken, but hey, you have to have some pictures to post to a blog, right?!

While I was there, I also got pictures of the boys. Gideon got his first haircut yesterday!
He wasn't too sure he wanted his picture taken either.

Levi got up from his nap. When he saw my camera aimed at him, he told me he didn't want his picture taken either.

I was in the middle of a statement about this family unanimously not liking their pictures taken when I aimed the camera at Gina in the kitchen.
She followed suit and under her breath said something about pictures, cameras....

But truthfully, I wanted to show you her new kitchen. It is NICE!
She's a bonus in the picture. No, she's there to give perspective!

They have a few more details to complete, but the bulk of it is done.
Doesn't it look great?

So, that brings you up to date on the Boenings!

Tomorrow, I watch the Miller children for a couple hours between the time Min goes to work and Seth gets home. Then I get to take Jazmyn out for awhile. I initially planned to bring her into Ionia and go to the movie Mars Needs Moms, but in driving by the theater tonight, the marquee shows two other movies showing. So our dilemna, do we drive into Grand Rapids to see a movie? Stay in Ionia and do something else? What else?
I'm sure Jaz won't lack for ideas! I'll wait and see what she comes up with.

Job!!

Good news on two fronts....

1. Dan got a call from Manpower today offering him a job right here in Ionia. He goes for the drug test and orientation tomorrow and another orientation at the actual business on Friday.

2. Dan got the guest room painted. You won't believe what color he chose! Remember the choice was beige or spring green? Well, it isn't either of those two! He found a full can of paint the same color as our bedroom (hot chocolate) and used it in there. It turned out pretty nice actually.

What do you think?

He spent a lot of time today pulling old staples out of the floor so we can put the flooring down.

Our next job will be finish pulling staples and put wood flooring down. We saved the stuff from the old kitchen and are going to put it in there.

Spring Green or Beige?

It has been a week now since I blogged. That isn't because nothing happened around here....I just have had too many things to get done and I haven't made myself sit down and blog.

Last week it felt like we were non-stop between work, meetings, classes, small groups, etc. It was fun, but busy.

So, here's what took place at the house....

See that slop? That is runny drywall compound that Dan paints on the ceiling when it has been mudded, taped and sanded....the last step before "stomping". That picture next.

Here it is, having been spread on the ceiling.

More going on...

The brush he uses to "stomp" the ceiling to give it a textured look.

I know you wanted to see the whole thing getting done - more "slop" going on.

More "stompin'"

Now the other side of the room.

And the flat part of the ceiling.

Goin' on thick!

TaaDaaa...

Then he primed the walls...

All ready to paint. As I type, he is at Menard's getting more ceiling paint. We ran out of that. I picked a spring green for - I can't remember what room. I think the master bathroom, but when we went to do it, we decided that wasn't what we really wanted. So here sits a full can of paint. Problem is, Dan wants that room for his office (and we'll use if for the guest room). Our debate is whether to do it the same beige as the hall and office or do the spring green.
I'm going to let him choose. If he has to spend the most time in there, he can pick the color. Wanta bet it goes beige?!

Well, I have to get going. Thanks for checking in!
Have a great week!

Baby Shower

Oh, my goodness. It is so good to sit down and be quiet.
It feels like the last week and this weekend has been non-stop.
It hasn't been, but I feel like my mind and body can't quite get in sync!

Last week I took off Wed. to work for a girl at our church. I committed to help her Wed. through Friday.
That ended up being hit and miss....left me feeling unsettle and like I didn't quite fulfill an obligation.

This weekend we were gearing up for the shower for our new daughter in law. She and Daniel are expecting their first baby, and we threw them a baby shower.

In the middle of all this, we went to help Dave and Gina. Dan, to help work, I went to do whatever I could, but mostly to help with the little ones so Gina was freed up to work on the remodeling.

We ended up taking Jazmyn, Kayla and Levi overnight Saturday night, taking them to church this morning, feeding them lunch, packing everything back up and taking them home. Right after dropping them off (we kept Jazmyn with us) we made a run to the store to grab last minute items for the shower, then headed to the church where Dan dropped Jazmyn and me off...he went and picked up Daniel and they hung out while we girls had the shower.

After the shower, we stopped at Gina's, talked awhile, then drove Jazmyn home.

May I just say, I'M EXHAUSTED!

But here are some pictures of the weekend, or whenever they were taken. It is all one big blur to me right now!!!

Happy Gideon

Sweet Kayla

I bought Levi a set of jacks and tried to teach him how to play. He only wanted to drop the ball in the middle of the pile of jacks and watch them scatter!

Levi, the Spiderman

Gina's kitchen all ready for new countertops

New countertops on their way.....

Jaz keeping the boys busy

While they were at our house, we made brownies.

Then the baby shower!

They really are happy to be there!!

And, you won't believe it, but this is the only picture I got of Laina the whole time. She is on the very edge of the picture (on the right)!
(I should be fired!!)

Ok, that catches you up on US to this weekend.
Hoping this week turns up a job for Dan!

SEO, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.....

I have spent the day researching Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, SEO....all kinds of internet stuff. I read til my eyes went 'buggy' on me.
I did part of it for us, the other part for a lady at church who has a business and wants a presence on the internet. What fun!

Dan did a bunch of mudding today in the guest room. I actually took a few pictures of it. Want to see?

New bucket O' mud!

Opening the new bucket O' mud

Spreading the new bucket O' mud!

In between working/researching, I whipped up a blanket for the shower this weekend. (We are having a baby shower for our daughter in law this Saturday) Here is one I made last week....

And the one I made today....

Later in the afternoon Mindi called and asked if she and the kids could drop by. Well, of course, she doesn't even need to ask that question! Here are the kiddos....

Nate

Rayna, throwing an "I-didn't-get-my-way" tantrum.
I have to tell you, it was the funniest thing. She wanted to go up the stairs, but Mindi told her no. Then Dan went and sat there so she couldn't get past him. She started to cry, went down on her knees, then onto her tummy.
Funny the things you don't teach but seem to be consistent across the board with 1-2 year olds!

Jazmyn had set up an army....

Rayna cheered up and played with the doll that was as big as her!

So, there you have our day.
I'm sure tomorrow is going to be just as exciting ;-)
